High-efficiency Toilet (HET)
Installing a high-efficiency toilet (HET, 1.28 gallons or less per flush) will save 20 percent more water than a low-flush toilet (1.6 gallons per flush). The HET rebate program offers commercial customers $504 per toilet for the conversion to the most efficient toilets on the market today.
A WaterSense labeled toilet fact sheet is available in PDF.

Does your toilet qualify for the rebate?
To qualify you must:
- purchase and install a new high-efficiency toilet with an effective flush volume of 1.28 gallons or less between January 1, 2010, and July 18, 2010
- be a water customer of Sangre de Cristo at the service address where the machine is installed and at time of purchase
- replace an existing high water use toilet with a flush volume of 1.6 or more
- send completed application, postmarked no later than 90 days after purchase date
Not all toilets qualify for a rebate. It is your responsibility to ensure that the toilet you are buying qualifies for the rebate. Only high-efficiency toilet (HET) fixtures approved by the USEPA WaterSense program or flushometer valve/bowl combinations (when both the bowl and flush valve are replaced) rated by Maximum Performance (MaP) testing at 800 grams or more qualify for rebates. To confirm which toilets qualify for the rebate, look for the WaterSense label, check the list of approved tank type toilets at WaterSense, or check the list of eligible flushometer valve/bowl combinations listed here.
What is the WaterSense HET specification?
The water-efficiency component of the specification establishes a maximum effective flush volume of 1.28 gallons per flush for all HETs. This value represents a 20 percent reduction from the current 1.6 gallons per flush standard. Under this specification, an HET can meet the effective flush volume criteria by two ways:
- Single flush toilets must use 1.28 per flush or less; or
- Dual flush toilets ms ut have a full flush of no more than 1.6 gallons per flush and a reduced flush of no more than 1.1 gallons per flush.
For more information on the WaterSense tank-type high-efficiency toilet specification, visit WaterSense's final specification for high-efficiency toilets. Information on Maximum Performance (MaP) testing of popular toilet models can be found at the Alliance for Water Efficiency web site.
